Little Old Men

littleoldmen.jpg

Little Old Men create illustrations, animations and not to mention custom toys.  This style is unusual and interesting only using Red and White as the main colours! The customs are very minimalistic and work really sweetly dont you think?

Their animations are even cooler! Check out their Myspace or their website thats still under a bit of maintenence, for more information!

The Mouse vs. The Brush

the_mouse_1.jpg

Urban Retro have just started a new project, where they are putting two artists head to head to create a print – using either a mouse or brush!  The print will then be sold in a limited edition of 50 along with 100 sets of badges, by each artist.

Ben the illustrator using the mouse and Lou Pimentel using the brush are the first ones to kick start this project.

The prints will be sold at £19.95 each and the button badges are £3.45 for a set of 4.

Urban retro are also looking for 2 more artists to submit work for round 2, that will appear around March / April, so if your interested head over to their website and give them a bell!

The prints and button badges can be found on the Urban Retro Project website

This coming Friday brings the opening of “My Pal, Sookie La La” by North Carolina artist Hello, Brute to the Rotofugi Gallery on Friday 2nd February. Hello, Brute (aka Jon Knox Griffin) is probably best known for t-shirt designs for the likes of Owl Movement and Hi-Calorie (not to mention a particularly smashing hoodie design for Rotofugi) and a series of really awesome customized toys. Jon has promised a load of customized and/or hand-made toys (both plush and non-plush) plus prints, skatedecks and more…it should be a sight to behold.

Munny Shot – note on delivery of your Munny

If not the show organisers run the risk of Taxes and Duties, which may not be paid in time (if at all) for your Munny to make the show. Traking numbers for all deliveries need to be sent to Ryan at Iksentrik, please include date shipped, tracking number and the service used (postal service, shipping company, courier, etc).

As the show gets closer to launching more details are being announced. Munny Shot takes place on Sunday March 4th 2007 at Bristol’s Tobacco Factory from 12noon until late!

Super7 Magazine – issue 15

Super7 Issue 15 will be hitting store shelves (both real and online) imminently.

In this issue, Super7 delves into a 2-part story about the history of Star Wars toys as seen through the eyes of Japanese manufacturers past and present. Star Wars has never been far from the toy shelves (especially those 90′s released second gen figures of the original films). Whilst George Lucas almost killed the brilliance of the movies with Jar-Jar Binks, the force has stayed strong in the minds of collectors worldwide.

From Takara to Marmit and Medicom, they discuss the subtle and not so subtle differences cultural perspectives can bring out in toys. From die-cast metal and transforming plastic to hyper detailed 12″ figures and mini Kubrick figures – the over the top styling that only the Japanese seem able to produce.

The rest of the issue explores one of the last family of Bullmark Ultra kaiju ever made from Ultraman Leo. With a group of figures this rare, it is great to finally see them all in once place. With columns by Oka Narue, Take-shit, Hiddy Kinoshita and Brian Flynn, plus the latest in toy news, music and dvd releases, this looks like an issue worth reading again and again.
