Secret Wars – THE FINAL BATTLE results

The UKs number one pen-to-wall battle – Secret Wars – came to a finale last weekend. Teck 1 and Alfamale drew guns at 20 paces in a blistering showdown. Proving why they were the deserved final two, they each covered their half of the Juno wall in 120 minutes.

The 4 judges drew at 2 votes per finalist, which meant it was all down the the audience to decide the winner.

The decibel reader clocked the loudest primeval roar, of 118dB, in favour of Alfa!!

Alfa took home a cheque for £500, a load of goodies from the various sponsors – plus a special prize to design the graphics for the official Secret Wars toy as arranged by VA and due to come out later in 2007. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one and will have more annoucnments throughout the year.

Attaboy + Annie Owens

The Gallery At Screen Arts Presents Swarmy Weather, and exhibition of Annie Owens and Attaboy’s latest creations. On Friday April 6th the show kicks off with an opening reception (6pm -midnight). The exhibition runs until April 30, 2007.

Expect to be waist deep in murky water surrounded by creatures with teeth and girls on choppers and everything in between. Suitably located in one of America’s oldest and humid cities, St. Augustine, Florida. The city is a picturesque scene of children floating downstream – their houses overcome by the floods as mosquitos and winged insects swarm, sometimes underwater. The art represents pretty much the same.

AttaBoy will be in attendance at the show so please pop along to meet him, eat some snacks and drink some cheap beer while you’re at it. The Gallery At Screen Arts, 228 W. King Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084

Atta and Annie are the powers behind Hi-Fructose magazine.

Japanorama: J-Art

OK I admit this is just an excuse to post a photo of Razor Ramen Hard Gay… but also a nice tie in to this week’s episode of Japanorama. Last night’s episode featured exclusive interviews and views into the studios of Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara. Plus a huge and exciting look at toys – it was a bit weird hearing Jonathan Ross explain Urban Vinyl, but the words from Bounty Hunter, Secret Base and Tatsuhiko “Ryu” Akashi (CEO of Medicom) brought much joy.

If you missed the show, don’t worry it gets repeated on Friday on BBC3. Catch it if you can, just to see JR staring down HG’s hypnotic butthole…

Which leads us on to news that Takashi Murakami just put some new artwork up for sale at the Honeyee Store. A set of posters through Takashi’s art production and artist management company Kaikai KiKi Co., Ltd.

This new direction from Murakami is interesting for it’s slight move toward a more expressionist layering of texture and colour – whilst keeping some of his iconic characters. Creation of the original paintings was featured in the Japanorama interview.

Sadly, by the time news reached us of this all the posters were sold out.

Here’s Dok A’s latest custom, it’s an amazing Giant Snorse with trademark Dok A stylings. Guaranteed to give you the sweetest of nightmares. Do customs get any better than this? Well, only if it where to be followed by an equally large custom say, a Giant Zlik. Nice one Dok, keep um comin’.
