Corey Helford Gallery presents COOP

Opening Reception Friday, May 29, 2009 from 7 to 10pm
On View May 29 until June 20, 2009

Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present the highly-anticipated solo exhibition of new works by celebrated Pop-artist COOP.

Since 2006, Los Angeles has been on the waiting list for COOP’s next explosion of larger-than-life pop iconography, and his upcoming solo show of irreverent and outrageous fine art is built for speed. Bold and brazen does not begin to describe the parade of leering devils, voluptuous vixens, and hell-bound hot rods that dominate his electric acrylic-on-canvas paintings.

Considered one of the pioneers of the Contemporary New Fine Art movement, COOP steps out from his arsenal of sin to unveil the next phase in his evolving creations of neo-Pop imagery.
An original music score written and recorded by Mark Mothersbaugh of DEVO will be featured on opening night. The reception will take place on Friday, May 29 from 7 to 10pm and is open to the public. The show will be on view until June 20, 2009.

The Traveling Man / Deep Ellum Gateway

Reel FX Creative Studios and Brad Oldham Inc. today reveal significant details surrounding their series of sculptures entitled, “The Traveling Man.” The sculptures will sit at three different sites near DART’s Deep Ellum Rail Station and represent the latest additions to DART’s public art program.   Installation of the sculptures has started and is scheduled for completion the end of August, before the Green Line opens September 14.

Brandon Oldenburg of Reel FX Creative Studios and Brad Oldham of Brad Oldham Inc. were awarded the contract to create the sculptural series after their concepts were selected by DART in 2007. Since that time, the team has worked to complete the final design, engineering and construction phases of what has been dubbed “The Deep Ellum Gateway Art Project,” a moniker chosen by DART to signify that the three sculptures will serve as a welcoming gateway to all the visitors who enter Deep Ellum.

Skullymalicious by DLi$h

These days several artists have taken their hand at attempting to make their own small scale mass production.  In doing so, artists are being challenged to not just make items that are aesthetically pleasing, but also being able to hit price points of today’s vinyl market.

The Skullymalicious by DLi$h brings you a custom toy at under thirty dollars.   Based on the ever increasing popular Urban Warfair Skully platform, you will find DLi$h’s trademark stitch work worked in with various drip patterns.  Each color will be limited to five pieces with the exception of the Mono Edtion which is limited to three pieces.  The Mono Edition also features a little pertruding tentacle from the rear that makes him THAT much more special.

Voltaire, creator of the DEADY comic books and toys, joined the list of artists contributing to the “Stitch-Experiment 626 custom toy art show” by Mindstyle.

Naturally, he turned Stitch into his character DEADY, which has been seen in vinyl as various official releases by Toy2R.  Deady has also been bootlegged all over Asia as vinyl figures and solar powered bobble-heads.
Voltaire says, “He’s probably one of the most bootlegged characters you’ve never heard of!”
