Deinos from Bard Vandal!

Once again we have discovered a fantastic new hand-made resin figure for your viewing pleasure! Deinos are the creation of Norwegian designer Bard Vandal. So far there are 5 colours of Deinos (the purple and blacks being my favourites), and 5 of each colour planned for production.

The first batch of Deinos will be released and sold at Bard’s solo show called the “The Birth of Deinos” which will be in New York on the 14-17th of July at Ouchi Gallery. And this will be the only chance to get a hold of a Deino for a couple of months, so if you want to grab one before anyone else be sure to get down to the show!

Tech specs:

* 5” tall (13 cm)
* twistable head
* sculpted in Maya on a Mac
* printed on a Eden 260V PolyJet 3d-printer
* molded and cast in a kitchen in Norway
* hand-painted
* official product of the dark lord*
* technically, this is a lie

Read on for individual Deino pics and the story of Deinos :)

The Bristol Museum Vs Bansky

Banksy, a pioneer in modern art pushing the boundaries with his combination of graffiti and fine art poking fun and making policatal statements – the great artist of our time….or supremely over-rated? Whichever side you take you can’t deny Banksy’s work has done a great deal for art in our generation, bringing the acceptance of graffiti as a real form of art and causing much debate and controversy. Banksy is now, at least here in the UK, a household name.

The story goes, as I’m sure you have all heard, that the museum was closed for a day and all staff sent home, and in secret Banksy was brought in to install his works in secret and ended up wreaking his trademark style havoc across the entire building. So is it really all that much? Or is it just a few stencils here and there? Well, it’s actually a surprisingly large quantity of work hidden across every single room of the museums 3 floors along with the actual exhibiton in the gallery, the animatronic work from his ‘Pet Shop’ in the states brought over and filling the main hall, and an anarchic setup in the entrance hall.

UP x Sam Flores Dragon Boy Available for Presale

Upper Playground is proud to present the newest in a series of vinyl figures slated for release in 2009 – Dragon Boy designed by Sam Flores. Known for his signature characters and fusing them with Asian motifs, Flores’ Dragon Boy fuses his influences in this new groundbreaking figure. “I’ve been traveling [to]…a lot of places in Asia; I pick up a lot of things, styles and aesthetics. I’m infatuated with the beauty and architecture…the lines and attention to detail of everything.” (Interview with Modart).

Unlike most other vinyl figures, the Dragon Boy is made up of 3 pieces creating the illusion of the dragon floating through the clouds. The figure measures 10” tall and the head, midsection and tail feature extremely detailed gradient blends. Dragon Boy will come housed in a double-sided window box with a scenic insert card. Limited to 500 units, Dragon Boy is slated to release in early September but is available for presale beginning Monday, June 15, 2009, on the Upper Playground web store.

DEVILROBOTS – 4″ Strawberry TO-FU

News has leaked that the just released 4-inch Strawberry TO-FU has a love for bubble gum!
4-inch Strawberry TO-FU has been spotted on the streets blowing a big bubble of gum – yes, even in Sunny Singapore (where bubble gum is a no-no)!

Sources say that super sweet-faced 4-inch Strawberry TO-FU picked up this hobby from a fellow vinyl celebrity (no prizes for guessing who), and has been keeping it a secret for months. 4-inch Strawberry TO-FU loves the sensation of popping bubble gum, which often leaves her excited for more!

“Both Play Imaginative and the DEVILROBOTS believe that bubble gum loving 4-inch Strawberry TO-FU will connect with bubble gum lovers the world over!” Mr. Jacky Teo, Business Development & Marketing Director at Play Imaginative commented.

4-inch Strawberry TO-FU was just released in conjunction with the opening of the flagship Play Imaginative store in Iluma. Following the popularity of the 2.5-inch Strawberry PLAY TO-FU, Play Imaginative produced a 4-inch version of the highly sought after mini vinyl celebrity, also designed by The DEVILROBOTS from Japan.
