Cavey: New Release and Competition – Red Strawberry and Pink Strawberry Caveys

Cavey is going from strength to strength and is creating a massive buzz! The Unicorn and Ninja Caveys we featured a couple of weeks ago sold out in minutes!

Holly just got in touch with us to let us know about the latest upcoming Cavey release “Red Strawberry Cavey” and also to tell us about the competition she’s running to win a super limited edition “Pink Strawberry Cavey“!

Here’s your chance to win a Pink Strawberry Cavey, limited to only 2 pieces! For your chance at winning him get your art on and submit an original artwork featuring Cavey. You can paint, sculpt, sew, draw, Photoshop, anything you like as long as it features Cavey. The deadline is September 17th, and I will pick a winner on September 20th.

Grand Prize: Pink Strawberry Cavey. Three runner up prizes of Cavey badge and sticker packs.

Rules:

  1. One entry per person.
  2. Your entry must be 700px wide (or 700px tall)
  3. Please put your name in your submitted filename so i can identify entries easily.
  4. Closing date is Friday September 17th at 12 midnight BST. Winners announced September 20th

Toy2R – Mini Qee PumpkieQ DIY

Toy2R is pleased to announce the addition of the new 5″ Mini Qee DIY line to the Qee Universe of figures. This new articulated line will feature classic Qee characters like the Bear, Toyer and Mon but debuts in 2010 with the newest character, PumpkieQ. This DIY version is the same platform that will see the launch of Jon-Paul Kaiser‘s Samurai Pumpkin later next month.

Collectors can now take a stab at customizing using this new platform, engineered with removable head and arms, making those tricky customs easier to complete. The new Mini Qee follows the success of the 3.5″ Baby Qee line which now features 15 different Qee characters.

Really like this new shaped Qee and the Mini Qee line is a great idea in general, although it seems to be a weird DIY platform.  I guess it’ll be good as the basis for a big round head though lol

Custom Dunnys by The Given

These two custom dunnys are by Abe Viljoen of The Given collective.  Being a huge fan of Donnie Darko, I must say I love the Frank dunny. Besides it being an accurate representation of Frank, it’s pretty awesome that it features a removable mask so we get a nice gory view of Frank’s bloodied eye socket :]

This is done on a three Inch Duuny, so the details are pretty small and I was very happy with my first attempt at sculpting! I decided that the Mask should be detachable, so that you can see Frank’s Blood riddled eye.

F+ Never – Coarse Toys Custom “Thunderhead Drallian Slayer”

Wow! Josh Pearce aka F+ Never gave us the heads up about a new commission that he’s just finished!

“I call this guy “Thunderhead Drallian Slayer” A warrior enchanted with the lightning powers of the Thunderhead breed of Drallian.”

New awesome customs and goodies have recently been added to the F+ Never store so go check them out! Unless you’ve already got Josh working on something for you, the store may be the only way to grab one of his customs because he’s fully booked!

The detail on this piece is stunning and the quality is to an extremely high standard, I’m really looking forward to seeing more from Josh! Get yourself over to the F+ Never blog and check out some of the other customs, especially the recent Mega Munny commission!

Bitbots Jinny – JamFactory Custom – General Ruffles III

For those that didn’t know, we have recently set up a Vinyl Abuse Flickr Group for everyone to share their photos!

The other day JamFactory aka Gavin Strange dropped this photo of his awesome Jinny custom which will be appearing at the launch event in London!

“Jats Gill, the man behind the UK’s newest vinyl toy company ‘Bitbots‘ asked me if I’d be part of the launch event of their first toy ‘Jinny’ by customizing a blank version for the show! It’s been a while since I’ve customized a toy but I gave it a shot! As I always tend to do with customs, I have a thing for pulling the head off and turning it upside down – I’m glad I did, as it made me think of a bird of prey, with it’s beak poking out.

I got out the milliput and sculpted a ‘lip’ around the bottom of the head, so it looked like a military helmet with the beak poking out as well as smoothing over the top where the hole was and voila, it was ready to sand down and paint.

Using a nice chrome for the helmet and a olive green for the body, all that was left was to try my hand at dry-brushing, giving the helmet and body a bit of a rusted feel! And voila, what you see above is the finished thing, I call him “General Ruffles III”. You can check out what the original looks like here.

Bitbots Jinny – “Robot” and “Eyes” Latest News

The latest from the guys at Bitbots just arrived and we get to see the first images of some of the new designs! Here we get introduced to “Robot” and “Eyes“, not sure who these designs are by yet but they look wicked! Wonder what the other designs are like, hmmm I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

Vivid Plastic Presents: The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show

As featured on the KidRobot Kronikle blog, The Lovely Lowbrow Toy Show opened last Saturday to a packed crowd from 4:30pm-9:00pm at Square Records Gallery in Akron, OH. This custom show marks the first annual event organized by Vivid Plastic : Designer Toy Store. The crowd was a good mix of lowbrow art enthusiasts, toy collectors, and locals from the eclectic Highland Square neighborhood.

Over 30 custom pieces are on display with Akron’s top artists:  Julia Bunn, Jeff Lamm, Jamie Suvak, Joshua Davis, Kate Budd, Charlie Wagers, and Jaron Tager. As a special surprise, Vivid Plastic invited graffiti artist Sh!t Heap of San Francisco showing his “Cloudy with a Chance of Rad” custom.  The blend of Akron based tattoo artists, graffiti artists, illustrators, and lowbrow painters made for a visually stunning exhibition.

ESC Toys – Skratch Purple Claws!

Recently Skratch grew tired of her job stacking boxes at a local toy shop. She was underpaid, cranky and hated the fact that she didn’t get any freebies. Her big mouth boss made her job harder by telling her that if she worked a little bit harder, she would be awarded with the title “Employee of the Month”. Skratch couldn’t care less for the title. Every month that title went to a lazy Purpolo Papa Sama that was favored by the boss for some mysterious reason, but that’s another story.

One day a large box fell on Skratch’s head due to the Purpolo Papa Sama’s neglect. She couldn’t take it anymore and she decided to quit. Her boss asked “where are you going to find a better job in this economy? Besides you’re a purple puss with no boots. Who would hire you?”. That “purple puss” comment drove her over the edge as she popped her claws out and went after her boss. The chase came to a halt when they noticed an ice cream covered mouse opening an ice cream store across the street. It was lunch time.

The ESC Toy, Skratch Purple Claws colorway is limited to only 25pcs worldwide.

The newest release at Funkrush!

I hear you asking, “What is this I see before me? Playing cards, or 54 little pieces of art?”
