In April 2006, Vinyl Abuse helped out a friend of ours - Huck Gee. - who had run into some trouble with US immigration. To show our support we commissioned a collection of artwork, with a view to exhibiting and auctioning the pieces to help raise money for Huck's legal fund.
35 international artists donated artwork and the exhibition went live at the Old Truman Brewery in London, with a special opening night sponsored by Asahi. Gee Whizz: A Japanese Need For Speed ran for 9 days, sales during this time and afterwards raised significant funding for Huck, part of which was redistributed to other charitable causes.
Art saved Huck from a rocky road when he was younger - and it was that rocky road which came back to haunt him later in life.
Vinyl Abuse wants to ensure that art can help save other young people who face problems in their lives. So we have created the Gee Whizz Foundation. The Foundation will raise funds by selling artwork - these funds will be redistributed to charitable causes actively helping young people through the arts.
The Vinyl Abuse online store has designated Gee Whizz Foundation products for sale. Money from the sale of these products we will go into the Gee Whizz Foundation Fund, to be redistributed at regular times throughout the year.
Look out for the GW logo on special products.
