Lapin

Reported by Geoff on 7th August 2005

Something smells decidedly funny…it’s only after a few minutes of hunting for a small dead animal in my lounge that I realise the odour is in fact coming from the latest Mr Clement toy, his 8 inch Lapin. But don’t let that put you off – it just adds character to an already great piece. Mr Clement hand makes all of his toys and this represents a huge step forward from the smaller Common Lapin’s released earlier this year. At £35 it’s not cheap, but when you consider that the figure, box and illustration are all done by hand, not some factory in China, it represents good value.

Everything about this piece screams character – from the bulbous, ghostly shape to the milky white colour and those tiny little eyes. Best of all, this Lapin comes complete with a single red rose (who is it for?) and a lovely red leather scarf. The box is also handmade, with a nice background behind the figure, which is held in place to make it look as if he’s floating in the clouds.

It’s those little touches that make the Lapin such a nice piece. As an added bonus, Mr Clement has also hidden home made miniature maps and Time Out magazines in some of the boxes for some lucky collectors. Not exactly a chase, but a nice surprise.
