It’s by far one of the best show’s we’ve seen all year. It’s definitely worth a trip downtown and proves that you don’t need white walls and Chelsea address to make an impact.

Plus Plush

Plus Plush kicked off with a Monday night party last night. Huge thanks to all the people who passed through the doors to check out the show.

The show was made up of 14 customised plush toys, plus 14 pieces of artwork by 14 different artists: Muju, Peskimo, Hicalorie, Julie West, Jawa, Triclops, Squink!, Tortoy, Hide, Sichi, Sneakyraccoon, Mr Pinks, Potatomo, What What.

The flyers doubled up as a template of the toy for people to doodle on, thanks to Letraset for the pens. The public wall was pretty much filled at the end of day one. Anyone who is interested in taking part, head to Bodhi on Brick Lane, London. The show rocks on until the 10th June (with a possible extension currently being discussed).

A special big thank you to Mr and Mrs Muju for creating the special plush and bringing Giant Muju and his mini friends along for the fun. Anyone in Brighton for their summer holiday make sure you visit ToyLife!!!

We will bring you full coverage of all the pieces in the show soon.

Damien Hirst – For the Love of God

“Artist Damien Hirst has unveiled a diamond-encrusted human skull worth £50m – said to be the most expensive piece of contemporary art. The 18th Century skull is entirely covered in 8,601 jewels, while new teeth were made for the artwork at a cost of £14m.”

Hirst was inspired by an Aztec turquoise skull at the British Museum, and hopes that his work will eventually be displayed at the institution. Other Hirst works, also on display at the White Cube gallery in London, include a painting of his son’s birth by Caesarean section and a tiger shark cut in half and suspended in two tanks of formaldehyde.

The centre piece of his new solo exhibition “Beyond Belief” has a price tag of just £50million.

Not yet having experienced the piece up close I’m not passing judgement on the works at “Beyond Belief”. The skull bling however reminds me of this piece by Mauro Peruccchetti which featured in his Beaux Arts exhibition Blast!

OK so it’s crystals not diamonds and possibly not a real skull (series of 9) and it was a much more reasonable price, but until you have £14million to spend creating a peice of art you can’t expect to price art at £50million. However, ideas do come for free.

Check out Peruccchetti’s work of giant Jelly Babies and sweet looking hand grenades at the Beaux Arts site. Beyond Belief runs until the 7th July at both Hoxton Square and Mason’s Yard White Cubes. Viewing ‘For the Love of God’ at White Cube Mason’s Yard is restricted to ticket entry only. Tickets are available from White Cube Mason’s Yard on the day or book in advance from their website, to collect on the day.

Thunderdog Collective – LONDON

The Thunderdog Collective arrived in London on Thursday 31st May 2007 to mark their territory at Exposure. The venue proved too small for the eager audience, causing not only a queue outside but also near tropical conditions inside. As part of the ongoing relationship with Corbis, the Thunderdog Collective had many iconic images available as affordable framed prints. The event also saw the debut release of the first production S.P.U.D. (500 regular, 100 GID chase).

Those who nabbed a S.P.U.D. seemed to easily score a GID.

Who wants some more Thunderdog in London… you’ll have to wait and see…!

Attaboy – Palace of the Brine

Palace of the Brine is a new exhibition by Attaboy. It opens with a party on Friday 8th June 2007 at Rotofugi. Atta will be on hand to sign his Arctic Shmee Qee Toy (from 7-8pm) with the gallery open 7-10pm. Free sodas are supplied by Goose Island. The exhibition Continues through to June 30, 2007.

Palace of the Brine delves into Attaboy’s ongoing conflict between the guilt-ridden worker bee drones and the remorseless cephalopods for the attention of the Brine Queens. It’s a world where hairy bursts of color float in the corner of your eye. The exhibition will showcase new paintings and drawings hovering off moldy walls, casting shadows behind them. Attaboy’s transparent spraypainted plastic works will also be shown as well as the release of the Arctic Shmee Qee figure designed by Attaboy.

Latex for Fun! – exhibition

Latex for fun?

“The project started with a simple idea: create disposable “designer toys” with pure d.i.y. ethics. We started drawing over balloons what we would like to draw over vinyl toys, but we couldn´t afford. That´s how the Latex for fun project was born… and in a few months 135 designers from over 20 countries participated; Their work reflects various styles, personalities and cultures, but all of it shows how vibrantly creative the collaboration of a spontaneously generated global design network can be.”

latexforfun_8.jpg

The show will be open untill june 2nd and includes a selection of works featured in the book (Latex for Fun, die gestalten verlag, 2007) in addition to large scale prints by Jeremyville, Gastón Caba, DGPH, Gregori Saavedra, Sauerkids, Michele Angelo and Comte d´Urgell.

To complete the show, latex toy designs will also be created especially for the occasion by Jeremyville, Jon Burgerman, Sauerkids, Gastón Caba, DGPH, Pulcomayo, Hello Bard, Craig Atkinson, Christian Lindemann, Oli / ICFF, Miss Lotion, Lala Ladcani, Gregori Saavedra, Zosen and Max-o-matic.
