5 Foot Qee Bear for a PENNY!…

qeenormusmaximus

dsc_0196dsc_0203dsc_0198

The piece will be auctioned on Ebay w/ the opening price starting at… ONE PENNY.  10% of proceeds will go to Project Open Hand, so we’ll see what Qee can do for the world.

After two years of moving around, the Qeenormous Maximus is looking to find a permanent home.  The piece has traveled throughout California in galleries including 1AM, D-Structure, and Filthy Dripped.

This is one of very few five foot Qees in the world. It has been meticulously painted by DLi$h to become the ultimate show stopper. The toy was slaved on for just under two months before completion. Weighing in a just over 70 pounds, this toy is no toy. Unlike most custom toys, this piece is made of fiberglass rather than vinyl.

The theme behind Qeenormous Maximus is the idea of creating an entire world that lives within the toy. You will find numerous windows that show a surreal setting of monsters, machines, and diabolical mayhem.

Go eye to eye with Qeenormous Maximus and you will find yourself staring at two naked girls posed elegantly awaiting their savior.  This piece begs to make the statement that vinyl toy art is not just a hobby; It’s the new emerging medium in the urban art world.

The Empire Muggs Back: Art for A Mighty Good Cause

Lucasfilm recently asked a group of artists to customise a blank Hasbro’s Mighty Mugg toy. jAKe decided to turn his into George Lucas, resplendent in the ‘Han Shot First’ t-shirt featuring his artwork.

‘Artists, comic book creators, toy designers, and celebrity fans are getting out their markers, paint brushes and glue guns to transform blank Mighty Muggs into one-of-a-kind Star Wars art to be auctioned by The Make-A-Wish Foundation. These toys have been available in a variety of characters from Star Wars and Indiana Jones, among other comic book and film franchises. For this special project, called The Empire Muggs Back, Lucasfilm asked popular artists, comics book creators, toy designers and celebrity fans to take blank Mighty Muggs (donated by Hasbro) and transform them into their favorite Star Wars characters, scenes, ships and more.’

Tins for Tots – Kid Kustoms x Wheaty Wheat x PPG

Kid Kustoms is collaborating with PPG industries and Wheaty Wheat Studios to bring you completely new medium and international forum to display your talents.

They have invited the world’s best hot rod stripers, street artists, illustrators, air brushers, graphic designers, and cartoonists to compete in one of 3 categories to generate awareness and resources for this year’s charitable organizations. Participation is by invite only.

“What we are doing is the first undertaking of its kind. It blurs the bounds between art mediums, the automotive world, fashion, technology and juvenile product realm. We are practicing the art of science through aesthetic appeal, functional design and thought provoking reason” says Jamie Coblentz, president of Kid Kustoms and Pinstripe Prep.

Five charities were selected to be the beneficiaries for this year’s event. The reason being was to ensure that the participants feel they are contributing to a cause they feel close to. The organizations chosen to be the recipients of the goodwill are: One is Greater than None, UNICEF, Sacred Circle, Action Against Hunger and Conservation International.

Avast ye Scurvy Naves!

Captain Jack Dunny by Okkle

You might call this a shameless self-plug on my behalf but as it’s for charity I figured you wouldn’t object ;)
Okkle’s “Captain Jack” 3″ custom Dunny is up for all to bid on the ol’ bay of e.
He was created to raise some money for a small animal sanctuary in Newport, Wales where I used to study called ‘All Creatures Great And Small’, registerred charity no. 1088244.
He is based on a real life rabbit (who I named Captain Jack! Hurrah for pirates!) who was dumped at the sanctuary one day by a breeder because he had too many spots for his breed, since then he has been living happily in the sanctuary with his fluffy bunny firends! ^_^

The sanctuary does a lot of good work and I’m very happy to help support them in every way I can so please if you are interested in helping, or just like the Dunny, head over to the ‘bay now. 100% profit goes to the charity, I will be taking nothing from this.

Now let’s all hear it for fluffy rabbits, pirates and Dunnys! Yarrr!!!

Yeast Infection

Yeast Infection is an online art show and auction. All of the pieces will go up for sale on 10/6/06 on ebay. The artists will be receiving a majority of the sale price of each figure, so support the artists and bid high.

The artists who are involved include: Motorbot, Doktor A, Upso, El Maz, Mimic, ooo000ooo, Pavid, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, MAD, Andrew Bell, Dragon Cypher, Jesse Hernandez, bilbetsovic and many more.

We asked show organiser El Maz, what were his reasons for setting up this custom event?
“This show stems from my frustration towards platform figures. The munny has been done so many times by so many people, because it is easily accessible. Sadly, what this means is that it is also overdone. The same goes for the other few platform figures out there. At the time I came up with the idea of this show, I was in the middle of customizing several figures, and I began to crave something that was different. Something that had not been done yet.”

Why did you choose the infamous Pillsbury Doughboy as the platform?
“Around this time, I was also purchasing quite a few vintage toys from ebay. I was especially leaning towards advertising icons that companies had turned into toys. One of the auctions that I won was a Pillsbury Doughboy figure. As soon as i received the Doughboy, I knew this was exactly what I had been looking for. The Doughboy is such a classic advertising figure – he has been around for quite some time and almost everyone has seen him at some point in their life. The toy itself is very smooth, allowing a lot of flat surface to customize.”
