The Sucklord presents OCCUPY CYBERTRON

In his first official event since being voted off a popular reality TV show, The Sucklord will offer for sale selections from a new body of work paying homage to the Occupy Wall Street movement.

What: The Sucklord presents OCCUPY CYBERTRON
Where: END OF CENTURY, 237 Eldridge Street, NY, NY 10002
When: December 7th, 2011: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

OCCUPY CYBERTRON will serve as the launch event for a new line of collectible “art toys” inspired by the Occupy Wallstreet Movement. On December 7th, the Sucklord, acting as the leader of the Decepticons, will defend his vast fortunes against a solidarity protest of Autobots, which represent the 99%, in a conceptual performance art piece that will “occupy” the End of Century retail space and gallery in New York City’s Lower East Side.

Longtime Sucklord co-conspirator The Crystal Pharoah will appear for a DJ set, and Beerlao has joined the cause as a drink sponsor.

According to The Sucklord,

“In the spirit of the 1% that an evil supervillain such as myself represents, I thought the timing was ripe for Suckadelic to appropriate the Occupy Wall Street movement for my own material gain… so I made action figures of the protesters and the masters of the universe who financially control them. They make great Christmas gifts.”

A small batch of limited edition OCCUPY CYBERTRON trading cards have been produced for the event by a collaboration between Suckadelic, Appro Nation (Creators of “The Art Hustle” contemporary art and artist trading cards) and Sidekick Media (manufacturer of the Suckadelic Suckpax trading card series).

A free pack of cards will be given to anyone who attends the event in a costume relevant to the theme. The Sucklord will also be offering a limited quantity of custom art toy action figures in 8”, 3 ¾” and 3” scales for sale.

Sergey Safonov’s Luno the Moon Rover

Luno the Moon Rover is a character-based spaceship created by Sergey Safonov the man behind the toy collection database Rotocasted. Luno is both an art sculpture and a toy for painting and playing. It is designed with storytelling in mind and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first man in space.

Luno the Moon Rover is about 5 inches in diameter with three spinning wheels. Mini Luno is about 3 inches in diameter. Both sizes of Luno will be made of hand-cast resin and painted glossy white.  Follow the updates to watch the progress of Mini Luno with Crazy Label!

About the Designer:

Toy designer, Sergey Safonov, dreamed of space travel all throughout his childhood in Russia. As a kid, Sergey was surrounded with space memorabilia: He had tons of space related-books and magazines, space food (tiny bricks of bread and space tubes) and April 12th was a family holiday. The only problem Sergey had with space toys was that all of them were replicas of spaceships and mechanisms, and he was looking for characters with which to play and tell stories. Now Sergey Safonov is grown up with a young son of his own, so he is trying to create his own space character: Luno the Moon Rover.

Sergey has been creating characters and producing original, hand-made toys for many years. His work has appeared in the books Dot Dot Dash and Art-Toys and the magazine, Design Bureau. He is currently working on a picture book about his characters, the Gooma. The following photos are several of Sergey’s original resin toys. They are available as part of one of the reward options for people who pledge to help produce Luno the Moon Rover.

Another great piece, (hopefully) made possible by KickStarter.  I can’t help but notice that Luno looks kinda like Pooka from Dig Dug, which is awesome in itself :]  Go pledge, every dollar helps and you can receive your own Luno, Mini Luno and more toys & art by Safonov.

Stance – DIY vinyl sneaker

What is Stance?

The Stance High is the first edition in a unique line of designer toys that connect the art and creativity of the customizable toy community with the passion and emotion of the sneaker culture.

Artist can re-create their favorite pair of Jordan’s that they wish they still had; or design a new colorway for that sneaker that you’ve always wanted to see. However, my ultimate vision is that artist will throw all the rules out the window and run with their very own vision of the perfect kicks.

Love the concept of this project, the packaging (although just a concept at this stage) alone is just plain awesome and certainly original.

There’s a huge amount of creativity in the custom sneaker scene and it’s gonna be awesome to see what will be made of the platform.. but only if you back it!  For $25 you can pre-order yours over @ kickstarter and help bring this product to life.

The SUCKADELIC Art Toy Universe

Opening Party: Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 6-9pm
Closing Party: January 23, 2011, 3pm

Boo-Hooray Gallery
521 West 23rd Street, NYC 10011

The Boo-Hooray Gallery reluctantly announces the first SUCKADELIC retrospective gallery exhibition. Intentionally confusing, misleading, disappointing and really funny, these limited-edition parodies of action figures reverberate with a vicious wit and are oddly eyeball-pleasing in the manner of all kinds of toothsome 20th/21st century collage and montage art.

One of the most respected despised and influential figures in the art toy movement for the past decade, the SUCKLORD has been producing handmade bootleg action figures in very limited runs, each selling out immediately. As the plot thickens, the work of the SUCKLORD is widely collected in fine art circles, and has been auctioned at Christie’s, Freeman’s and Phillips.

This exhibition marks the first time the entire SUCKADELIC catalogue will be exhibited in one place. For the duration of the exhibit, a SUCKADELIC SUCK-SHOPPE pop-up store will be open. Original artwork, sculptures, silk- screens and paintings will also be for sale.

The work presented in this exhibit is a documentation of my struggle to reach the top of a sinister pyramid scheme; A culture-jacking enterprise where ruthless-yet-compelling super-criminals compete for the imaginations of fickle consumers and a relentless media machine.

Lindsey Kuhn’s Destroyrrr X is coming to.. DESTROY YOU!

Destroyrrr X is a new series of hand-painted resin robots designed by silkscreen artist Lindsey Kuhn. Standing nearly 9-inches tall and wide Destroyrrr X weighs in at a whopping four pounds of pure resin!
Each figure is hand painted, signed and numbered on the bottom of the foot and carefully packaged into a silk screened box. A three color 12×12 inch signed and numbered print by Kuhn is also included.

The first edition is limited to 50 figures worldwide. An edition of 25 identical Destroyrrr’s and 6-7 small variant editions will be available.

A lot of love and attention has clearly gone into the creation of each Destroyrrr figure. With each one coming with a signed and numbered print, you really do get an amazing package for your dollar. Each colourway stands out as an individual character in it’s own right ( I personally love the skeletor-esque 1.6 variant ).

Hopefully we’ll see some chrome, clear plastic and GID finishes for the next wave of Destroyrrrs or once the current figures get in the hands of Matt Walker, Mark Nagata et. all

Lindsey Kuhn, has been printing since 1984, helping revive the lost art of the Rock Poster in the 90′s. He has continued to create and print his own posters for 19 years keeping his D.I.Y. ethic alive by printing his own work as well as other artists through his print company called SWAMP and Conspiracy skateboards, his independent skateboard company now located in Denver, Colorado.

Lindsey was also recently featured/interviewed in the documentary, American Artifact; which is an awesome insight into the world of American rock poster art of the last half a century.
