RIPNDIP

POP UP SHOP and GALLERY
at
Known Gallery
Los Angeles

Extraterrestrial feline friendly label RIPNDIP surprised the streetwear capital of the world that is Farfaix Avenue by opening up a surprise one-of-a-kind art gallery and retail pop-up to launch their renaissance themed spring 2016 line.

The whimsical collection includes nods to famous works by artists Dali, Rodin and Michelangelo, replacing the original works with venerable characters Lord Nermal and We Out Here Alien.
RIPNDIP converted Known Gallery’s bright and lofty space into a installation art exhibit, where the brand icons come to life in statues, animatronics, furniture, and traditional paintings.

LA industry types celebrated the opening with two nights of open bar festivities where the furry and green creatures themselves made an appearance as well as social media savage Lil Mayo. The pop-up is located at 441 N. Fairfax Avenue and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until March 21st.

Before ED-IT by Tesselate

BE_B5100_1

‘Before ED-IT’ is the new range of handmade resin robots by Tesselate; which detail the life of the ED-IT DJ’s before they formed the group. First up is B5100 in the pre ‘Law of Awareness’ working colour.

Background:

The 2068 ‘Law of Awareness’ granted all non human creations the same right as humans themselves, and changed the way the working world existed. The B5100 series (pre 2068) were primarily employed to work on governmental architectural projects as an electrical maintenance engineers.

The work was sometimes dangerous and often involved working around Class Q Construction Platforms, which were never known to be very caring about their movements, and this shows in the outer modular ‘Toughskin®’ of this B5100.

Many B5100 bots were happy to keep any damage to their working kit as a sign of what a tough series they really are.

Boards Don’t Hit Back – Custom Paw by Pause

Bruce_Lee_Paw_Pause_Front

Pause just finished up this awesome custom Coarse Paw for a collector; titled “Boards Don’t Hit Back”.

The collector commissioned me to make him a Bruce Lee themed piece and this is what I came up with. It’s loosely based on the final battle scene in Enter The Dragon. (If you haven’t seen the movie, Mr. Lee has to fight the final boss who has a Vega-style claw hand in a room full of mirrors. Which one is the real one and which is just a reflection?!) So I made a background out of cut mirror and wood.

Another custom that serves to prove how talented an artist Pause is.  Such a cool concept, flawlessly executed; with a ridiculous level of attention to detail that rivals and even surpasses many production pieces.

The Story

Currently the rubber ducky has no-one to play with. Although this isn’t the only reason we created Otto and friends, we think that children, parents and hipsters alike deserve another friend for the bathtub.

Otto-the-Octopus

Otto is the loyal friend that we all need. He is always there for you to brighten your day. Otto loves leisurely swimming sideways & bopping around in the water.

You can help to fund the creation of Otto (& eventual friends) by checking out FiveFtTwo at IndieGoGo.

McBess 20inch Dunny leak

20130121-175729.jpg

Looks like we have a 20″ McBess Dunny inbound if this leaked image from Instagram user, “theyneverfade” is anything to go by. A pretty standard McBess design, I do love that Freddy Mercury-esque white jumpsuit though and who knows whether it’ll come with accessories or what the back will look like (besides more hair and the back of a jumpsuit..).

What’s puzzling is why this isn’t an 8″ Dunny? seems it’d make more business sense, especially as a 20″ Dunny is going to be a huge chunk of coin for anyone outside of the US.

Here’s to hoping there’s more McBess stuff to come (always loved his female character designs, be sweet to see them brought to life, come on toy companies give McBess his own toy series!). Still a pretty rad addition to the 20″ roster.

Kevin Gosselin x Pause Collaboration

20130121-164523.jpg

Kevin Gosselin and Pause have teamed up on a secret project.

They will be revealing a little more every 6 days with another teaser picture, with the full reveal on Feb 14th, and the release on Feb 21st.

This project has been in the works for over two years now, and we promise it will be worth the hype.

I think it’s a dead cert that we can believe the hype. The combined talents of Pause and Kevin Gosselin should yield something spectacular, keep your eyes peeled folks!

Kidrobot London Closing Down

KRlondonClose

Over the past few weeks, the UK vinyl scene has been astir with rumours and speculation that the Kidrobot London store would be closing.  People started to suspect something was awry after the pre-christmas sales and a string of MASSIVE sales recently.

It is most unfortunate that sadly these rumours have proven to be true, the Kidrobot London Crew posted the following message on the KR LDN facebook page:

There has been rumor and speculation about the future of our Kidrobot London store, and the impact this may have on the vinyl scene on this side of the ocean. We regret to say that we are indeed closing down. This January will be our last month of trading at 19 Earlham Street. We have struggled to approach this issue delicately, as we know a lot of you have come through the store over the past few months and have raised the concern with us. We understand your concerns with what this means for our little tight knit community with the store closing down, as this impacts not just our artist friends, but those who enjoy the Kidrobot brand for what it is and what it stands for.

The Kidrobot brand is still going strong. It is just our store in London being impacted.

Firstly to our brilliant customers/fans; Thank you for your custom over the past 3 1/2 years. We here at Kidrobot London have loved getting the chance to know you all. Thank you for sharing your collections with us, your passions, and bantering about how annoying flocked toys are to keep. Many of you have become more than customers, we’re happy to be able to call you friends.

Secondly To our artist friends; Thanks for all your support over the years, be it with shows, customs or just coming to hang out. We have watched many of you grow and have enjoyed watching you all making your mark with your amazing customs and art. We still get little tingles down our spines when we see your names amongst the heavy hitters in our scene. Thank you for sharing your passion with us!

Thirdly and on a personal note; Thanks to the ragtag bunch of misfits and delinquents that were the Kidrobot London staff (present and past). I’ll miss coming into work each day and seeing you guys and gals. You were the best make shift family anyone could ask for.

Let’s keep our little toy community spirit strong, and growing. Why not share with us your favorite moments of Kidrobot London, We’ll start.

Our fondest moment here at Kidrobot London is meeting you all. It wasn’t about the vinyl, it was about the people. You all rock.

Much love and big up the UK designer toy scene.
the Kidrobot London Crew.

A sad day for the UK/Euro vinyl community, I’m sure we’ll hear more as to reason for the store closure in the coming days.

I wish all the staff of KR LDN the best of luck in their future endeavors and will remember all the awesome things they accomplished in the past 3 years that helped to build a strong community and forge friendships of collectors and artists alike.
