Before ED-IT by Tesselate

‘Before ED-IT’ is the new range of handmade resin robots by Tesselate; which detail the life of the ED-IT DJ’s before they formed the group. First up is B5100 in the pre ‘Law of Awareness’ working colour.

The 2068 ‘Law of Awareness’ granted all non human creations the same right as humans themselves, and changed the way the working world existed. The B5100 series (pre 2068) were primarily employed to work on governmental architectural projects as an electrical maintenance engineers.

The work was sometimes dangerous and often involved working around Class Q Construction Platforms, which were never known to be very caring about their movements, and this shows in the outer modular ‘Toughskin®’ of this B5100.

Many B5100 bots were happy to keep any damage to their working kit as a sign of what a tough series they really are.

Now available at the Tesselate Shop, standing at 6″ tall and VERY limited with an edition size of one!

Boards Don’t Hit Back – Custom Paw by Pause

Pause just finished up this awesome custom Coarse Paw for a collector; titled “Boards Don’t Hit Back”.

The collector commissioned me to make him a Bruce Lee themed piece and this is what I came up with. It’s loosely based on the final battle scene in Enter The Dragon. (If you haven’t seen the movie, Mr. Lee has to fight the final boss who has a Vega-style claw hand in a room full of mirrors. Which one is the real one and which is just a reflection?!) So I made a background out of cut mirror and wood.

Another custom that serves to prove how talented an artist Pause is.  Such a cool concept, flawlessly executed; with a ridiculous level of attention to detail that rivals and even surpasses many production pieces.

FiveFtTwo Toys – designed in SF

FiveFtTwo is a line of toys designed in SF, blurring the line between toy, art platform and functional objects that can be enjoyed & appreciated by adults and children alike.

The Story

Currently the rubber ducky has no-one to play with. Although this isn’t the only reason we created Otto and friends, we think that children, parents and hipsters alike deserve another friend for the bathtub.

Otto is the loyal friend that we all need. He is always there for you to brighten your day. Otto loves leisurely swimming sideways & bopping around in the water.

You can help to fund the creation of Otto (& eventual friends) by checking out FiveFtTwo at IndieGoGo.

A conversation with Ron English
On Art & Inspiration

In their second in an ongoing series of interviews with artists, Dudebox have just released a short film on Ron English.

Dudebox’s very own movie production department DBTV headed to Ron’s studio and explored his work space. The king of POPaganda gave them a very personal insight into what feeds his imagination, how he forms ideas and what inspires him to create.

Jason Freeny’s CAPSLs – Series1

With CAPSLs Artist Jason Freeny Shows Us Once Again; It’s What’s Inside That Counts

One minute you’re an unknown artist working on a quirky new project; the next you’re being named Clutter Magazine’s Breakthrough Artist of 2011. Suddenly you’ve got an army of avid Facebook fans following your every move and your pieces are selling for $10,000 each. So where do you go from there? For Jason Freeny, who made his name by  dissecting toys, the answer was fairly obvious. Today Freeny is launching his very own line of designer toys; CAPSLs. Available online at, CAPSLs are super-durable, interactive keychains with pocket-sized personality and just enough space to store your smallest goodies, like candies, mints, “prescriptions”– whatever it is that keeps you going (and hey, we’re not here to judge).

In 2011, Freeny’s “Pop Anatomy” sculptures gave us a very literal look inside of  pop culture icons as Super Mario and Hello Kitty and launched Freeny into the spotlight with glowing write-ups in Gizmodo and High Snobiety, among others. With those pieces, Freeny started with mass produced toys and turned them into unique works of art. Now this web phenom is partnering with FCTRY, an independent product design firm, to turn the tables and mass producing his original creations for everyone to enjoy. For the first time, Freeny’s thousands of fans can each take home a piece of the rising star’s work.

“For my first line of designer toys, I wanted to add function” Freeny says. “ Everything else out there is all about form, but CAPSLs are actually useful too. And I wanted to add a 4th dimension, since so much of what I do focuses on what’s inside; CAPSLs let you go inside and actually use that space to store things.”

The first series of CAPSLs features 12 original designs ranging from sweet (Flower Bomb) to zany (Frog Squid). Tops and bottoms create an airtight seal, and they’re interchangeable, so you can mix and match with more than 100 combinations. In addition to the original 12, several special limited edition CAPSLs will be released over the next few weeks.

The full series is available for $99 and will include all original 12 plus 3 blind boxes. Individual CAPSLs can be purchased for $7.99 at Buy the full set and get a limited edition Medicine Man for free.
