GoNuts Toy Launch @ Drop Dead Clothing

Drop Dead Clothing Proudly Presents their new GoNuts Toy.

On Saturday 1th August, make sure you go visit the Drop Dead London, Kingly St Store from 12pm for the launch of GoNuts.  Get your hands on the new 6 inch collectible vinyl toy and eat some free donuts while you’re there!

“Gonuts for Donuts!”

The second toy release from Drop Dead, following last years Kitty Brainz-esque Doroppu figure. No price has been revealed so far but expect it to be around £20 given that it’s 6″, the same size as Doroppu.

I personally love this toy and was instantly drawn to it after seeing the teaser on the Drop Dead Tumblr.  Really feeling the packaging and branding that goes with this toy; the Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts parodies are spot on.  The character design reminded me of the California Raisins, only way more awesome ‘cos y’know, its a donut not giving a fuck with it’s fingers up.

Expect a full review when I (hopefully) get my hands on one :]

Jason Freeny’s CAPSLs – Series1

With CAPSLs Artist Jason Freeny Shows Us Once Again; It’s What’s Inside That Counts

One minute you’re an unknown artist working on a quirky new project; the next you’re being named Clutter Magazine’s Breakthrough Artist of 2011. Suddenly you’ve got an army of avid Facebook fans following your every move and your pieces are selling for $10,000 each. So where do you go from there? For Jason Freeny, who made his name by  dissecting toys, the answer was fairly obvious. Today Freeny is launching his very own line of designer toys; CAPSLs. Available online at CAPSLs.com, CAPSLs are super-durable, interactive keychains with pocket-sized personality and just enough space to store your smallest goodies, like candies, mints, “prescriptions”– whatever it is that keeps you going (and hey, we’re not here to judge).

In 2011, Freeny’s “Pop Anatomy” sculptures gave us a very literal look inside of  pop culture icons as Super Mario and Hello Kitty and launched Freeny into the spotlight with glowing write-ups in Gizmodo and High Snobiety, among others. With those pieces, Freeny started with mass produced toys and turned them into unique works of art. Now this web phenom is partnering with FCTRY, an independent product design firm, to turn the tables and mass producing his original creations for everyone to enjoy. For the first time, Freeny’s thousands of fans can each take home a piece of the rising star’s work.

“For my first line of designer toys, I wanted to add function” Freeny says. “ Everything else out there is all about form, but CAPSLs are actually useful too. And I wanted to add a 4th dimension, since so much of what I do focuses on what’s inside; CAPSLs let you go inside and actually use that space to store things.”

The first series of CAPSLs features 12 original designs ranging from sweet (Flower Bomb) to zany (Frog Squid). Tops and bottoms create an airtight seal, and they’re interchangeable, so you can mix and match with more than 100 combinations. In addition to the original 12, several special limited edition CAPSLs will be released over the next few weeks.

The full series is available for $99 and will include all original 12 plus 3 blind boxes. Individual CAPSLs can be purchased for $7.99 at http://www.capsls.com. Buy the full set and get a limited edition Medicine Man for free.

Connect with FCTRY. on Facebook to learn about how CAPSLs were designed, special releases and to connect with Jason Freeny at http://facebook.com/CAPSLs.

CAPSLs (series one) include: 3 Eyed Squid, 40 Watt, Bones & Band-Aids, Brain Monster, Daily Dose, Flower Bomb, Frog Squid, Happy Pill, Frog Squid, Peace Bomb, Shark Bomb, Spray Bomb, Squid Monster and Medicine Man (limited edition 300 available)

Review: TADO x MATHMOS Chuppi

It’s review time and we’re reviewing the new TADO x MATHMOS Chuppi customisable toy/night-light.

Contents:

  • 1 x Chuppi
  • 2 x Sticker Sheets
  • 1 x Charging Base
  • 1 x Charger [and the required adapter depending on country]

Right out of the box Chuppi is a sizeable little fella at approx 8″ tall.  Upon taking Chuppi from it’s box I was quite surprised at how light it was; yet it’s sturdy enough as to not fall over from the slightest bump.

Chuppi comes with 2 sticker sheets with 18 stickers for you to play with.  The box and instructions show 18 faces you can create as designed by TADO, or you can mix and match to create thousands of possible faces.

I wasted no time in attempting to recreate the face of Wario on my Chuppi (as can be seen below).

I plonked my newly dubbed Wario-Chuppi onto it’s charging station fora while whilst I waited for night time.  On the underside of Chuppi is a single button which is used to activate the various light modes; a single press sets it to cycle through a rainbow of colours, pressing it a second time sets it to solid blue, a third time sets it to red and a fourth and final time sets it to green.

Each colour was vibrant and also provided an ambient glow.  By default, after 30 minutes Chuppi will graduaully fade until it goes off, this setting can be changed by holding the button down (for 3 seconds) until the underside red LED goes off.

PLUS: Vibrancy/Range of Colours, Endless possibilities with stickers/customization, Portable, Sleep Timer, Charging Station, Rechagrable

MINUS: Would’ve been nice to be able to pause mid colourcycle / greater choice of light colour.

I highly reccomend picking up a Chuppi from MATHMOS, they’re awesome little toys with some added functionality that will especially be appreciated if you have kids that are afraid of the dark.  The ease of use, portablity and the fun that can be had customising your Chuppi makes them a more than worthwhile purchase.

Big thanks to Emma / Miss Cakehead of Stay Puft for providing us with a Chuppi to review :]
